The SEO Audit checklist explained

First tip is to utilize the ability to browse your website in the same way a search engine spider would – with JavaScript and cookies disabled. You can also make sure that your website isn't running cloaked content, something that could potentially harm you in the long run.

The second section of this checklist is something that could last for a lifetime, the first impression your website gives. When you look at your homepage, note any thoughts and impressions you have concerning your website. Note any problems and fix them. Turn JavaScript on and off in order to simulate the different types of visitors you may receive to your website. Make sure to address and correct any canonical issues your website may have.

The third and fourth sections deal mostly with common problems that both users and bots may experience when trying to navigate your website. It's important that your header, footer, category and subcategory pages all work regardless of whether JavaScript is enabled or not. Make sure that your category and subcategory pages all serve a purpose with content that is expertly written, and make sure that any links contained within text on that page have effective anchor text.

The fifth category in this SEO audit infographic pertains to having optimized content on your website. Make sure you have the appropriate title tags, meta descriptions, friendly URLs, alt-image text, header and subheader text all while keeping the use of JavaScript/Flash to a minimum.

The last category deals with off-page SEO and comparison with your competitors. By using Open Site Explorer, you can compare metrics with other people already ranking for keywords. With a keyword tool, you can verify that your website is indexed and that it ranks for keywords that will garner traffic.
